John Mallet
Key Note Speaker- Bell’s Brewery - USA John has been at Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo MI since 2001. As Director of Operations he is responsible for logistics, raw materials, brewing, packaging and brewery capital projects. John serves on many brewing Technical Committees and Boards including the Brewer’s Association, Master Brewers Association of the Americas, the American Malting Barley Association and the Hop Quality Group.
Rob Heyns

League of Beers Rob Heyns founded League of Beers in 2012 as a way to bring crafters and drinkers of quality beer closer together. Since then, and after joining forces with Yuppiechef in 2013, League of Beers has shared the stories and flavours of craft with over 200 000 foodies and beer fans across South Africa.
Apiwe Nxusani Mawela
Brewhogs Apiwe became the first person in South Africa to complete the National Diploma in Clear Fermented Beverages (NQF 6) through the FoodBev SETA. After working at SABMiller since 2006 and holding many different positions within the brewing company, Apiwe joined the Brewhogs team in 2014 as both Co-owner and BrewMaster. She has since started her own company – Brewster’s Craft, a company which offers accredited training, consulting and quality testing for the brewing industry.
Aruna Singh
FlavorActiv Aruna forms part of a multilingual team of sensory professionals who train and validate tasters in best sensory practices at FlavorActiv, a trusted and vital partner to the global beer and beverage industry. Her sensory experience and skill extends from Beer, Soft Drinks, Water and Spirit Sensory as well as Tea Tasting, Blending and Herbals, Biscuit and Baking Technology, Flavour Sales and Marketing, Sugar Process Technology, Chemical Additives and Chemical Processing. Aruna is based in Durban, South Africa, and is responsible for the African continent.
Steven White
PelliconiSteve White is a graduate in Chemistry from the University of Reading, and has spent over 30 years in the closure industry. When working for the then Darex division of W.R. Grace, he was the co-inventor of oxygen scavenger and barrier closure liners and has extensive experience in their application on various types of beers and other oxygen sensitive products. Steve has worked for Pelliconi, the world’s largest manufacturer of crown corks, since 1999, and is their Business Development Director and Chief Innovation Officer.
Alan Melville
RedRock Brewing Company Based in Midrand, Alan is a Partner and Managing director of RedRock Brewing Company. When he isn’t involved with the making beer, he is consulting & giving business advise to local, national and international clients. With expertise in general management, strategy development, entrepreneurial business & product development, marketing and general finance, Alan is the right person to ask for business advise when it comes to breweries.
André Harms
Ecolution Andre Harms is an electro-mechanical engineer, Green Star accredited professional, Renewable Energy Professional and Qualified Commissioning Process Provider with experience in sustainability across industries, including the craft beer industry. Andre has comprehensive experience in design, project management, commissioning process implementation and site auditing for sustainability projects.
Frank Peifer
Hopsteiner - GermanyFrank is the Technical Director, Europe, Hopsteiner. Frank studied a Dipl.-Ing. for Beverage Science. With the backing of Hopsteiner’s main Technical Director, he is also currently working on special F&E projects as well as their QM-matters.
Francois Smit
SABBI Francois is the Variety Development Manager for Africa at the South African Barley Breeding Institute (Sabbi). Sabbi is one of Africa’s leading barley breeding institutes- the Sabbi program is a SMART breeding program aimed at developing brand aligned barley varieties with superior yield potential, stability, agronomic characteristics, disease resistance, malting quality and brewing quality.
Adrian Robinson
Saggy Stone Adrian, a huge beer lover and Springbok supporter, started his career as a teacher in Durban before moving into the retail industry and later even starting his own bakery in Cape Town. Partnering with his brother, Phillip, Saggy Stone was born and has become a growing and thriving business with Adrian managing the production and his brother, the sales and marketing.
Destin Le Coeur
Dematech Destin completed his national diploma in analytical chemistry and also received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He worked as a laboratory assistant at the department of environmental affairs and also as a laboratory and teaching assistant at the functional foods research unit at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Destin now works at Dematech Pty Ltd as a brewer, a position that he says made him fall in love with changing water into beer as Jesus changed water into wine. Isn't it wonderful!
Lauren Steytler
SAB Lauren is the General manager at SAB Hop farms and has been with SAB for 18 years. She has achieved master brewer qualifications through The Institute of Brewing & Distilling as well as completed the MSC Brewing Science with Nottingham University.
Lucy Corne
On Tap magazine Lucy Corne is a beer writer and educator. Her popular blog, The Brewmistress, documents the South African beer scene and she has also penned two books on South African beer, African Brew and Beer Safari. Lucy is the editor of On Tap magazine, South Africa’s quarterly publication for beer lovers, and is also a BJCP judge
Danie Cronje
Danie Cronje Attorneys Danie is the director of a specialist liquor law firm based in Stellenbosch. He advises clients on applications for liquor licences under the various provincial liquor acts as well as on registrations as manufacturers or distributors under the national Liquor Act. He is currently the Chairman of the Cape Law Society’s Specialist Committee on Liquor Law, which represents attorneys practising in liquor law. His client base includes two leading supermarket groups, restaurant chains, producing wholesalers, many wine estates, restaurants and hotels.
Mike Halls
Social Media Marketer Mike is an experienced social media marketer, with a passion for craft beer. He is also a keen home brewer and social media beer influencer across Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. He also happens to be part of the League of Beers, Tasting League, captains group. He writes a very interesting beer blog, which visits breweries and reviews local beers. He also runs a YouTube channel showcasing his visits to craft breweries, scaling down their recipes to a home brew level, giving a step by step guide on how to brew their beer.
Mark Kerr
Devils Peak Brewing CompanyMark graduated from Stellenbosch in 2008 with a MSc in Genetics (molecular biology). In 2011 he started working for the university’s Institute for Wine Biotechnology as a Scientific Officer as was introduced to micro-brewing. In 2012 he joined UCT’s Dept. Chem Engineering and studied in the Centre for Bioprocess Engineering Research (CeBER) group, he competed in the SAB sponsored Intervarsity Brewing Challenge and did quite well in different categories throughout the years. In 2017 he started at Devils Peak Brewing Company as their Brewery Operator and is now involved as the laboratory analyst from raw materials to packaged product QC and tracking.
